WINNIPEG, MB - The Blue Bombers have added major skill to their receiving corps today with Wane McGartiy, Dimitrius Breedlove and Vinny Sutherland inking them all to contracts.
"We identified the receiver position as the number one priority this off-season," said Head Coach Jim Daley. "These signings are a major step by Brendan Taman toward filling that need." "Breedlove brings great size and speed, McGarity is a proven veteran as a receiver/ kick returner with great quickness and Sutherland is a proven receiver/ kick returner with outstanding speed."
WANE MCGARITY BIO
Wane McGarity (Import, Wide Receiver, 5-8, 190, Texas College, DOB: Sept. 30, 1976 in San Antonio, Texas).
CFL YEARS - CALGARY STAMPEDERS - 2004
McGarity had 47 receptions for 599 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games for the Stampeders.
CFL YEARS - CALGARY STAMPEDERS - 2003
McGarity played in 14 games where he had 55 receptions for 799 yards and six touchdowns.
He had 663 yards and two touchdowns on punt returns and 248 yards and one touchdown on a missed field goals. He also had 399 kick off return yards.
McGarity was the West Division nominee for the 2003 Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and was also named to the West Division All-Star team.
CFL YEARS - CALGARY STAMPEDERS - 2002
McGarity had 15 receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns in five games. He also had nine kickoff returns for 212 yards and 12 punt returns for 66 yards.
DIMITRIUS BREEDLOVE BIO
Dimitrius Breedlove (Import, Wide Receiver, 6-4, 215, Evangel University, DOB: June 9, 1978 in Orlando, Florida).
CFL YEARS - HAMILTON TIGER-CATS - 2004
Breedlove had 47 receptions for 894 yards and five touchdowns in seven games. He signed as a free agent with Hamilton on February 16, 2004.
COLLEGE YEARS - EVANGEL UNIVERSITY
Breedlove played four seasons (1998-2001) with Evangel University where he had 94 receptions for 2,084 yards and 27 touchdowns. Breedlove tied a school career record with 27 touchdowns.
VINNY SUTHERLAND BIO
Vinny Sutherland (Import, Wide Receiver, 5-9, 190, Purdue, DOB: April 22, 1978 in West Palm Beach).
Sutherland was originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the fifth round in the 2001 NFL Draft. He was then signed as a free agent by the San Francisco 49ers in 2001.
Sutherland joined the New York Dragons in 2004 for the Arena season.
NFL YEARS
In 2001 Sutherland played 15 games and returned 19 punts for 144 yards and 49 kickoffs for 1,121 yards, the most kickoff return yards by a rookie in team history.
In October of 2002 Sutherland signed with the Chicago Bears for the remainder of the season as their kick returner, but then re-signed with the 49ers in January of 2003.
COLLEGE YEARS - PURDUE
Sutherland was a two year starter. He caught 176 passes for 2,370 yards and 25 touchdowns. Sutherland is Purdue's 2nd All-Time receptions leader.
