Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers fortified their non-import ranks today with the re-signing of safety Ian Logan and linebacker Neil McKinlay.
As per team policy, terms of the respective deals were not disclosed.
"Canadian content continues to be an essential building block to the success of any CFL team," said Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman. "Likewise, it's important when you have quality non-import players on your roster that you retain them.
"Ian Logan and Neil McKinlay have both made valuable contributions to the team during their time here in Winnipeg and we expect both to continue to do so in the years to come."
Logan (5-9, 190, Wilfrid Laurier '05, DOB: Aug. 18, 1982 in Waterloo, Ont.) was signed by the Blue Bombers as a free agent on Jan. 16, 2005.
He made his CFL debut on June 16, 2006 versus the Montreal Alouettes. He went on to play in 14 regular season games that year and recorded one defensive tackle and five special teams tackles. He also dressed for the team's Eastern Semi-Final loss to the Toronto Argonauts at Rogers Centre.
Logan blossomed in his second season as a member of the Blue and Gold in 2007. He dressed for 15 regular season games, including four starts at corner. He finished the regular season with 16 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, two pass knockdowns and two interception returns for 16 yards. His two picks ranked second among Bomber defenders.
McKinlay (6-0, 220, Simon Fraser '03, DOB: April 25, 1981 in Langley, B.C.) has been a stalwart of the Bombers' special teams unit since being selected in the fourth round (33rd overall) of the 2004 Canadian College Draft by the Big Blue.
He has played in 70 regular season games since his rookie year in 2004, missing only two games due to injury. A year-round resident of Winnipeg, McKinlay had one of his best years as a pro in 2007. He played in all 18 regular season games, including one start at linebacker (Aug. 3 at Hamilton). He finished with 12 defensive tackles, one quarterback sack, one tackles for a loss and 13 special teams tackles. His 13 special teams tackles ranked fourth among Winnipeg defenders.
McKinlay has registered double digits in special teams tackles every season since joining the Bombers. He registered a career-high in 2005 when he led the team in that category with 19.
