Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After falling behind in the second frame, the Brazos Valley Bombers showed their true grit, battling back and fighting until the final out of the night.

The Bombers fell to the San Antonio Flying Chanclas Tuesday night, 10-9. The game, ultimately a rollercoaster of highs and lows, kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the night. Because the matchup was the team's final "away game" of the season, the navy and gold can now refocus on returning to Edible Field and making memories with members of the Brazos Valley community over the next week.

The Bombers wasted little time getting into the action. Second baseman Daniel Altman led off the first inning with a single into left field, then eventually scored on a wild pitch. First baseman Shelby Becker and center fielder Dylan Rock weren't far behind, thanks to the help of a stolen base and an RBI single by third baseman Troy Viola.

San Antonio took the lead in the bottom of the second with a five-run inning. The following three-and-a-half frames progressed scorelessly until San Antonio tacked on a lone run in the sixth before being shut down by a 4-6-3 clutch double play. Two more runs from the Flying Chanclas in the seventh put the home team at nine.

New life was seemingly breathed into the Bombers in the eight inning. Rock, Viola, catcher Ryan Snell and shortstop Kalae Harrison all rounded the bases to put the navy and gold within two. Snell, Altman and right fielder Drew Collins garnered RBIs in the process. Two more runs in the ninth by Rock and left fielder Grayson Tatrow knotted the game at nine, but San Antonio walked the game off with two outs on the board.

With Tuesday's one-off in the record books, Brazos Valley falls to a 20-18 record (9-7 in the second half) while San Antonio climbs to 24-7 (8-3). The Flying Chanclas have already clinched a spot in the Texas Collegiate League playoffs, meaning the remaining games are crucial for the navy and gold, pitcher Grant Wood said .

"It's time to go to war," Wood said simply.

The Bombers will return to Edible Field on Wednesday, July 27 to host the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The matchup will mark the return of Brazos Valley's Margaritaville Wednesday celebration, featuring Mad Taco's world famous $2 Mad Ritas all night long.
