TCL Flying Chanclas Take Down Brazos Valley in Bizarre Walk-Off Win

SAN ANTONIO - After leading by as much as six runs, the TCL Flying Chanclas used a two-out rally in the ninth inning to walk-off the Brazos Valley Bombers. San Antonio wins by a score of 10-9 on a game-winning infield single from Jalen Battles.

The first inning of Tuesday night's game saw plenty of action. The Bombers plated three runs against Chanclas starter Dylan Bright. Bright allowed two hits while walking two batters in his lone inning.

San Antonio responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Cole Posey drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on a groundout from Justin Thompson. It was a 3-1 Brazos Valley lead after one inning of play.

Matthew Sessler was the new pitcher for San Antonio going into the second inning. The left-hander tossed four shutout innings while allowing two hits and striking out three.

The offense provided Sessler with plenty of run support as they scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Batting around the order, Posey drove in two runs with a base hit and tied the game. Battles gave San Antonio the lead with an RBI single. Finally, Thompson drove in two more runs with a two-out double. The Chanclas took a 6-3 lead.

San Antonio added three insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Ryan Flores drove in one run in the sixth inning after hitting into a groundout. In the seventh, Posey drove in a run with a bases loaded walk and Battles drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. It was now a 9-3 ballgame.

Meanwhile, Sessler along with Cale Wagoner and Connor Schmidt, kept Brazos Valley off the scoreboard throughout the majority of the game. Facing Jarek Wells in the eighth inning, the Bombers began a comeback that eventually led to a tie game.

Wells failed to record an out and was on the hook for four runs allowed. JT Moeller replaced Wells and was able to stop the bleeding and keep the Flying Chanclas ahead.

In the ninth inning, Brazos Valley scraped across two more runs and tied the game. Back-to-back singles started the inning and both runners came around to score on a sacrifice fly and a single.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, with the score tied, the Flying Chanclas were done to their last out to keep the game from going to extras. Cole Modgling kept the inning alive after reaching on an error. He later stole second base and Posey reached base with a walk. Battles came to the plate and hit a dribbler to shortstop. On the throw to first, Modgling rounded third base and was able to score the winning run on the play.

Jalen Battles finished the night 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs driven in. Moeller records the win.

The San Antonio Flying Chanclas improve to 24-7 on the season. They are back in action Wednesday, July 28th on the road against Amarillo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
