Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan-College Station, TX - Despite rainy conditions that delayed the game half an hour, the Brazos Valley Bombers (3-0) remained unbeaten Saturday night after a 15-1 rout of the Woodlands Strykers (0-2).

"Putting a three-spot up early in the game gives you [an advantage,] especially if you start a series in a new environment. It was good to see," said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. "And then for Garrett Harris to get out there and have his first outing with us- going five innings, getting five zeroes on the board and allowing us to grab a big lead and kind of sit on it and finish the game."

The Bombers were able to load the bases early in the first inning and capitalize on a Stryker error to score three runs in the first frame. In the third inning, the Bombers blew the game wide open after Stryker relief pitcher Hayden Barnett walked eight batters en route to a 10 run inning. The Stryker pitching staff would end the game with 16 total walks.

University of Texas San-Antonio outfielder Matt Hilston was the Bombers' offensive standout of the night, as he reached base in all six of his at bats going 2-for-2 with three walks and a stolen base.

"How about a 'welcome to the club' right there? First day with us, [Hilston] gets on base six times- but that's who Matt is," Dixon said. "We're excited to have him."

The Bombers pitching staff turned in another solid outing, holding the Strykers to just one run on six total hits. Starter Garrett Harris, a sophomore out of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, finished with one hit and six strikeouts in his first appearance of the season.

The Bombers end their opening four game road trip Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Strykers before returning to Bryan to open their home schedule against the Acadiana Cane Cutters onJune 3at Cellucor Field.
