Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 1, 2014) - With their first shutout of the year, the Brazos Valley Bombers ended their season opening four game road trip with a 4-0 win Sunday night over the Woodlands Stykers.

Bombers starting pitcher Jake McDavid held serve in a pitcher's duel with the Strykers' Nolan Holland, giving up just two hits in 5 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts.

"It was a great first start for Jake McDavid," said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. "He came out and answered the zeroes that they were putting out in their bullpen, and it was a good team win."

The contest was knotted at 0-0 for the first six innings of play, before designated hitter Jack Kaiser drove in first baseman G.R. Hinsley on a groundout to break the stalemate. Later in the inning, third baseman Ryan Roderick would single to drive in second baseman Jimmy Norris and push the gap to 2-0.

The Bombers were able to capitalize on loading the bases early in the ninth, adding a pair of insurance runs on a single by catcher Josh Foster.

The Bombers' timely hitting was the key to the victory, but the squad's five stolen bases made driving in runs easier.

"Coach Gillum has been working with these guys emphasizing being more aggressive on the bases, and its showing," Dixon said. "You look tonight- hits were a little bit hard to come by and we were able to get some guys on and put some pressure on."

The undefeated Bombers will return home Tuesday night to open their home schedule against the Acadiana Cane Cutters onJune 3at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. All Bombers games can be viewed online at www.ustream.tv/channel/brazos-valley-bombers-baseball .
