Bombers Complete Third Straight Sweep over Cane Cutters
June 4, 2018 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Youngsville, LA - For the third series in a row, the Brazos Valley Bombers have completed a two game sweep, this time marking the first series sweep for the team on the road. The game was not an easy one for the Bombers as the Cane Cutters jumped on the Bombers early, causing the club to trail 3-1 early on, but they would come from behind to take the victory over Acadiana 10-6.
Once again, the Bombers scoring started, in the second inning, with a home run from Bombers short stop Christian Sepulveda, his fourth home run in the last 3 games. The Cane Cutters came back with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, putting the Bombers behind. The team overcame the deficit quickly as they responded with a pair of runs during the third inning. The Bombers then burst the game open in the fifth inning with four runs, capped by a three run home run from Brady Batten. The Bombers would add three more combined runs in the 6th and 7th innings to take a 10-3 lead. The Cane Cutters would reduce the deficit a little with three runs of their own in the bottom of the 8th, but their comeback came up short.
Bombers starting pitcher Hunter Reeves was effective in his second outing of the season, going 5 innings, only allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, while striking out 8. For the season Reeves has struck out 15 in his 8 2/3 of work this season for the Bombers. The bullpen was just as effective at missing bats, as Bombers pitchers Simmons, Collins, Inoff, and Butler combined with Reeves to strikeout 17 Cane Cutters for the night. This was a key difference in the game as the Cane Cutters could only strikeout 5 Bombers, but allowed 8 walks.
Coach Brian Nelson remained impressed with his team's performance, "We keep finding different ways to score, every game its somebody different in the line-up contributing. We played solid defense around the diamond and got another quality outing from our pitchers."
The Bombers will now remain on the road to take on the Texas Marshals on Monday and Tuesday for a two game series. The Bombers will return home for a two-game series June 6th, against the Victoria Generals.
