Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Doug Brown has never been afraid to tackle a new challenge.

The former CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year is preparing to take on one of the biggest challenges of his professional career - hosting his own live call-in radio show. Doug Brown's Spin Zone premieres Monday, Jan. 16 at 8:05 p.m. on CJOB Radio. The one-hour program will be broadcast on CJOB every Monday evening.

Brown describes the Spin Zone as an interactive sports-themed show featuring studio guests and calls from listeners. CFL Commissioner Tom Wright will be the first guest featured on the Spin Zone.

The Spin Zone will be similar in tone to the popular weekly column Brown has written for the Winnipeg Free Press for the past five years. No topic will be considered out of bounds, according to Brown.

"For me personally, the radio show is kind of like a litmus test for the column I have been writing for the last five years with the Free Press," he said. "It will be a chance to gauge whether my rants over the years have been spot-on, or whether I have been speaking out of my posterior.

"That is what the audience and guests will provide - a chance to explore the other side of what is almost always my own narrow-minded opinion.

"The reasons for calling the show The Spin Zone are two-fold," Brown continued. "The thing about contentious sport issues is that they will always be debatable, depending upon how you spin them to your personal beliefs. The second reason is that over the years I have definitely come to enjoy spinning the sports news for sarcastic and humorous effect."

CJOB Sports Director Bob Irving said it is a major coup to get someone of Brown's standing to join the radio station's sports team.

"Doug Brown has demonstrated a keen interest in getting involved in the radio business, and we are more than pleased to have someone of his stature become a part of our extensive sports coverage," Irving said. "We believe our listeners, and particularly the sports fans, will enjoy hearing Doug's views on a wide-range of sports topics."

CJOB is located at 680 on the A.M. dial and is the official radio broadcaster of all Winnipeg Blue Bombers games.
