
McCarthy Can't Get Enough

Hamilton, Ontario - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats today announced the appointment of Mike McCarthy as Senior Advisor for Football Operations.
"Mike's knowledge and expertise will be a real asset to our team," said General Manager Rob Katz. "I know he will be a valuable resource for Craig Smith, our coaching staff and myself as we continue to work this off-season and throughout the upcoming year."
This will be McCarthy's fourth term with the Ticats after having spent 18 years in the CFL, 13 of them in Hamilton including two Grey Cup victories as the team's Director of Player Personnel in 1986 and 1999.
"I'm thrilled to be back in Hamilton," said McCarthy. "It's great to return to this franchise with all the excitement surrounding the team again. I'm looking forward to doing my part to help the Ticats build for this season and for the future."
McCarthy spent the last three seasons with the San Diego Chargers. His duties included scouting players in all professional football leagues and college players in the Eastern region of the United States.
McCarthy had a successful career in the CFL, landing his first job in 1985 as Hamilton's Director of Player Personnel. He later spent time with the Ottawa Roughriders, B.C. Lions and Toronto Argonauts. McCarthy has been a part of three Grey Cup championship teams part of three Grey Cup championship teams, twice with Hamilton in 1986 and 1999, and in 1991 as the general manager of the Toronto Argonauts.
Before moving north to the CFL, McCarthy spent three seasons in the United States Football League with the Oakland Invaders (1984-85), Arizona Wranglers (1983-84) and Chicago Blitz (1982-83). His experience also includes stints as assistant coach at Brown University (1981-82), as a scout for the New England Patriots (1979-81) and as an assistant coach for the University of Oklahoma (1976-79).
