Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Blue Bombers added a pair of imports to their roster today, signing defensive back Brandon Stewart and receiver Kyle Smith.

As per team policy, details of the agreements are not disclosed.

Stewart (6-1, 200, Eastern Arizona Junior College '07, DOB: May 16, 1986 in Seattle, WA) has previously played in the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders.

Stewart spent the past two training camps with the defending Grey Cup champion Stampeders. He played in one game, on July 21, 2007 against Toronto.

Smith (6-0, 176, Youngstown State '06, DOB: Oct. 15, 1984 in Warwick, RI) is a receiver entering his first year in the CFL.

Smith was an exceptional player at Youngstown State, where he ranked ninth all-time with 101 career receptions.

After college, he signed with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent, but was released prior to the 2006 regular season.

In 2007, Smith was signed and played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the pre-season, before getting waived on Aug. 27, 2007. He then spent some time in 2008 with the Georgia Force and Arizona Rattlers of the Arena League.

Smith is the son of A.J. Smith, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of the NFL's San Diego Chargers.

"Both of these young men have a big upside physically, and have a hunger to excel. They will be given the opportunity to compete in training camp and should push to make the roster," said head coach Mike Kelly.
