Bombers Able to Scrap the Growlers

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Kalamazoo Growlers lost to the Battle Creek Bombers by a final score of 4-1. This is the fifth loss to the Bombers this summer.

Christian Grigsby (Lamar University) earned the win after two innings in relief, allowing one earned runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Chandler Schultz (Belmont University) was given his first loss of the summer after three innings, two earned runs on three hits and also struck out two Bombers. Evan Ingram (Hendrix College) notched his second save of the summer after coming in the ninth inning and giving up one hit and striking out one batter.

The Bombers got on the board in the third with an RBI single by Justin Van De Brake (Washington State University) to score Brad Goulet (University of Akron).

The Growlers would score their only run in the fifth, with Blake Dunn (Western Michigan University)  reaching on a walk and scoring on a wild pitch.

Battle Creek tacked on two more runs in the sixth thank to a leadoff home run by Van De Brake, his second of the summer. Peter Hutzal (Marshall University) then knocked in Nate Stolze (Miami University) for the second run of the inning.

The Bombers capped off their night with another run in the seventh on a single by Stolze, to bring in Goulet.

The Kalamazoo Growlers return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Kalamazoo Mac Daddies. First pitch for game one is at 11:05, while game two is set to start at 6:35.
