Bolt's Walk off Homer Caps Wild Win for the Hounds
August 4, 2018 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release
Thirteen was a lucky number for the RockHounds Friday night at Security Bank Ballpark.
Skye Bolt belted a two-run, walk-off home run in the last of the 13th inning as the RockHounds claimed a wild win, 13-11, over the San Antonio Missions.
The 'Hounds, for the second straight night, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first but, while they never trailed in regulation, could not shake the Missions. San Antonio rallied back in the third and sixth on two-run home runs from Josh Naylor and Austin Allen, respectively, and ultimately rallied to tie the game at 9-9 with a four-run ninth inning.
Both clubs scored in the 10th, but were denied in both the 11th and 12th, sending the game to a fourth extra frame (very unusual under Minor League Baseball's new extra-innings protocol, in which each half-inning begins with a designated runner at second base).
The Missions broke the tie on Buddy Reed's sacrifice fly, but the RockHounds came back to again even the game when Tyler Ramirez drove in Eli White to open the home half of the 13th. Ramirez was at third with two out when Bolt send a towering drive (through a significant wind) over the bullpen and the main outfield onto the grass berm in right, walking the game off.
Four batters had four (or more) hits, led by Ramirez. Tyler went 5-for-7 (all singles), scoring three runs and driving in two more. San Antonio's Taylor Kohlwey went 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in a run with a triple in the 10th and River Stevens went 4-for-6 with an RBI. The RockHounds' Nate Mondou went 4-for-5 with a double, a walk and three RBI.
