Rockford Lightning News Release
Rockford, IL. Pending league approval, Brant Bailey has agreed to play for the Rockford Lightning in the 2004-05 season. Bailey, a Wisconsin Dells native, caught Lightning Head Coach, Chris Daleo's eye at a Free Agent Camp over the summer.
Brant has spent the last two seasons overseas, playing for the Birmingham Bullets and in Wroclaw, Poland. He made a name for himself right out of college with Birmingham, finishing the season as the club's leading scorer with almost 21 points per game (10th overall in the British Basketball League). He was honored in the BBL All Star Game in 2001, where he impressed on-lookers with 22 points.
At UW-Steven's Point, Bailey scored a school-record 723 points and averaged 24.1 points per game as the Pointers finished 25-5 and claimed both the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles. UW-SP advanced to the "Elite Eight" of the NCAA Division 3 tournament before falling to UW-Eau Claire in the sectional finals.
"Brant is a hard-nosed player, he showed that in Free Agent Camp," says Coach Daleo, " He adapted to our system well and we feel he will be a perfect fit." Brant joins fellow Free Agent Campers Carson Cunningham, Sidney Holmes, Brian Lubeck, and Kevin Hass in Lightning Vet's Camp this week.
Any further information can be obtained by calling the Rockford Lightning front office at 815-874-4232 or by visiting the team website.
