Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, IN. â The Gary Steelheads announced today another signing of the season, pending league approval, as Ray Young will be returning for his second season in Gary. Terms of the contract are confidential, as per team policy.
Young will be returning to the Steelheads after a stint in the New Orleans Hornets Veteran Training Camp. Last season Ray had a regular season high game of 15 points, twice, during the season, and had 16 points, high for season, in the Playoffs against Idaho. As a back-up to All-Star Immanuel McElroy, he averaged 4.9 points and 2.9 rebounds a game after being signed on December 13th. After his stint with the Steelheads, Young played for the Dodge City Legend of the USBL coached by Steelheads Associate Head Coach Dale Osbourne. He averaged 14.2 points and 4.9 rebounds a game for Midwest Division Champions.
"This is another piece of the puzzle for us," said Steelheads Head Coach Duane Ticknor. "Ray is an outstanding athlete who I think is ready to make that jump from a rookie who was learning the pro game to one that can make a significant contribution every night for us. His athleticism and knowledge are going to be a key for us as we look to return to the playoffs. It is a plus for us in that he knows what we are trying to accomplish and is familiar with the area and fans of the Steelheads."
