Rockford Lightning News Release
Rockford, IL- Things may have been getting stormy outside of the Rockford MetroCentre, but the storm managed to brew inside as well as the Lightning fought off a comeback to defeat the Yakima Sun Kings 124-119. Tuesday night's six quarter point victory improves Rockford's hold on first place in the CBA's Eastern Conference.
It didn't come easy, as Yakima's Marlon Parmer had his second straight 40-point performance, as he scored 40 in the game. The Lightning had three players score over 20 points, led by Brian Lubeck's 25 points on the night. Rockford won the first two quarters of the ball game by two-point margins, and won the third quarter, but a Sun Kings 33-22 victory in the fourth took away the chance of a seven-point sweep. In his first start since coming back from injury, Ronnie Fields nabbed a double double with 22 points and 10 assists. This is the sixth straight game that a Lightning player has gotten a double double in a game. Keith Closs had a season-high seven blocked shots in the victory, and Lubeck led the rebounding, hauling down nine boards. The Lightning forced Yakima to 28 turnovers in the game.
The Bolts go on the road this weekend to face Eastern Conference rival Gary in a 7:05 p.m. tip-off this Saturday, January 8. The following day, January 9, Rockford returns home to face the Idaho Stampede in a Sunday afternoon matinee. Tip off is at 1:05 p.m., with the first 1,000 fans receiving a Stais Boseman player poster, the second poster giveaway of the year. Agnus Jackson will be returning to play a concert before and after Sunday's game, and fans can also enjoy the Milwaukee Bucks "Energee Dance Team" at halftime. Order your tickets by calling the MetroCentre box office at 815-968-5222.
