San Antonio Missions News Release
A two-run homer by Midland's Skye Bolt in the top of the ninth sent San Antonio to a 4-2 loss Tuesday night in front of 5,189 at Wolff Stadium.
On the bump for the Missions Tuesday was talented righty Jacob Nix, who was making his seventh start after missing the first half of the season with a groin injury. The Fullerton, CA native was once again sharp, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks, while striking out five over six innings.
Midland's only run against Nix occurred in the second with a Luis Barrera sacrifice fly to center.
San Antonio's offense also was slow to heat up Tuesday as fellow righty Sam Bragg allowed just three hits through five.
However, in the sixth, the Missions took advantage of Bragg's departure, turning its 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead on Miguel Romero courtesy of RBI-singles from Kyle Overstreet and Webster Rivas.
Midland followed suit in the seventh, tying the game at two with Eli White's double off Jason Jester.
San Antonio nearly broke the tie in the eighth, but left fielder Tyler Ramirez robbed Fernando Tatis Jr. of a homer.
In the top of the ninth, Midland was able to put one over the wall. After Barrera kept the inning alive with a two-out triple to right, Bolt took a 1-0 pitch from Jester (2-2) deep to left center for his second dinger of the season.
Kyle Finnegan worked around a one-out Overstreet double in the bottom of the frame to notch his second save. Nolan Blackwood (4-2) earned the win in relief for the "Hounds.
San Antonio (13-11, 55-39) and Midland (7-18, 40-54) wrap up their four-game series Wednesday on Military Appreciation Night presented by Air Force Federal Credit Union. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. Southpaw Logan Allen (9-4, 2.68) will get the start for the Missions. The RockHounds will send righty Parker Dunshee (1-2, 3.33) to the mound in Wednesday's finale.
