Rockford Lightning News Release
Rockford, IL. The Rockford Lightning announced Monday morning, pending league approval, Guy Rucker has joined the Bolt's Vet's Camp. Rucker made a name for himself as a tough, hard-nosed center with the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 6'10", 270 pound Inkster, MI native averaged 10.6 points per game and 5.7 rebounds his sophomore year.
After graduating in '99, Rucker played a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters, then traveled overseas to improve his skills. While playing in Hungary, Guy was noticed by the Los Angeles Lakers and brought in for their pre-season. He was waived by the Lakers right before the start of the season, and was immediately signed by the Golden State Warriors. Rucker played three games with the Warriors, and was waived. The Gary Steelheads snatched up Guy right after he left the Warriors.
After ending the season with the Steelheads, Rucker took another stab at the NBA. He earned a spot with the Houston Rockets in 2003. Guy headed back overseas after being waived by the Rockets; he has played in China and Croatia during the last two seasons.
"After our first week of camp, we realized we needed a bigger inside presence," says Lightning Head Coach, Chris Daleo. "We hope Guy will be able to take care of us in the paint."
The Lightning will play their first away exhibition game of the season tomorrow night versus the Michigan Mayhem. The Bolts take to the MetroCentre for their first home exhibition game on Friday, November 12 at 7:30pm. Tickets are only $5.00 (plus a MetroCentre facility fee). Any further information can be obtained by calling the Rockford Lightning front office at 815-874-4232 or by visiting the team website.
