Bolinger's walk-off lifts Pelicans

Royce Bolinger stroked an RBI single down the right field line in the 11th inning and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Wilmington BlueRocks 7-6 in front of 4,409 fans at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans did not hold a lead until the final play of the game.

Ryan Harvey (1-0) earned the win for the Pelicans while Cody Fassold (0-1) was saddled with the loss for the BlueRocks.

The Pelicans offense recorded 11 of its 14 hits in the final four innings, including three apiece in the eighth, tenth and eleventh frames. Jake Skole led off the 11th inning with a single and eventually came around on Bolinger's game-winner. The inning also included a bunt single from Luis Sardinas and an intentional walk issued to Rougned Odor.

The BlueRocks took the first inning lead on a solo home run from Jack Lopez. The Pelicans evened the score in the third inning on Kevin Torres' solo home run to left field. Wilmington reclaimed the lead on an RBI double from Daniel Mateo in the fourth inning, but Odor launched a solo shot in the fourth inning to tie the game 4-4 in the fourth inning.

The Pelicans played from behind the entire night. Trailing 4-2, the Birds rallied to tie the game during an eighth inning in which seven men came to the plate. Sardinas singled in a run and Trever Adams brought a run home with a double. The two teams traded runs in the ninth and tenth innings before Bolinger's game-winner in the 11th.

Luke Jackson started for the Pelicans and did not receive a decision. The right-hander went four innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Kyle Zimmer fanned eight over five innings and also took a no decision.

Sardinas, Bolinger, Adams, Torres, Skole and Zach Cone all recorded two hits for the Pelicans.

Myrtle Beach used six pitchers in an extra-inning affair that lasted three hours and 45 minutes.

Randol Rojas contributed a scoreless frame while Nick McBride added a pair of perfect innings. Alec Asher allowed two earned runs on three hits over an inning while Jon Edwards surrendered two runs, one earned, on a hit over 1.2 innings of work.

The Pelicans started 2013 with an extra-inning win after winning 10 such games last season.
