Boise Hawks Playoff Update

Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, ID - The Boise Hawks are now one game ahead of the Spokane Indians in the overall standings with two games remaining in the regular season and are still in the hunt for the playoffs. A win by Tri-City or a loss by Yakima in the final two games of the season will give the Dust Devils the second half pennant. Boise or Spokane would earn a spot in the Divisional Series beginning Monday if Tri-City wins the second half.

The second half of the season ends this Saturday, September 3. All positional rankings are based on winning percentage for that half. The Tri-City Dust Devils (20-16) have already secured a playoff spot by winning the first half of the season.

The Hawks would not secure a playoff spot if they end the season tied with Spokane because the Indians hold the advantage in the third set of tiebreaker rule--the better winning percentage within the division for the second half. Boise and Spokane are tied in the first two tiebreakers: head-to-head record in the second half (2-2) and head-to-head for the full season (6-6).

With two games remaining in the season, the Yakima Bears (19-17) can still overtake the first place Dust Devils to win the second half and the remaining playoff spot, removing any need for second-half tiebreakers.

If the Hawks do clinch a playoff berth, the first game of the playoffs would be a home game against the Dust Devils this Monday, September 5, followed by two road games in Tri-City Tuesday, September 6 and Wednesday, September 7.

There are also two player moves to note. RHP Charles Thomas has been promoted to the Low-A Peoria Chiefs and LHP Sheldon McDonald is no longer on the roster as he will be out of town for the last two games of the season. Pitchers are arriving at 3:00 p.m. today and position players at 3:45 p.m.
