Boise Burn News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Boise Burn's start to the season ended with a historic victory in a championship setting. With banners hanging high atop Freedom Hall, the Burn silenced the crowd of 9,400 with a 57-52 road victory over the hometown Fire.
Former Boise State star, Bart Hendricks's return to the field was as memorable as the win. Hendricks, who was named the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game, completed 21-33 passes including 4 touchdowns to lead the way for the Burn.
Another former Bronco star, Lee Marks (US Army Ironman of the Game), joined Hendricks in the record books. Five and a half minutes into the game trailing 9-0, Marks took a pass from Hendricks for a 16-yard TD, recording the first TD in Burn history and shifting the momentum to Boise.
Boise took the lead on a 16 yd TD pass from Hendricks to Jermaine "The Flea" Martin and took a 9-point lead into halftime. The leads grew to 16 after Brandon Hazenberg (ADT Defensive Player of the Game) picked off Joel Steele and returned 12 yards for the 37-21 lead.
Louisville answered with a Matt Forbes interception return for TD (2 pt conversion) and a Dave Hendrix 20-yard field goal, cutting the lead to 5. But the Burn held their composure thanks to a pair of Derek "Boom Boom" Beardall TD runs (1,5) and Emmett White's first TD catch of the season en route to a 57-52 road win.
Up next the Burn will face the Quad City Steamwheelers on April 13th on the road. Quad City was picked 10th in the pre-season coaches poll.
The Burn's home opener at Qwest Arena is April 21st against the Everett Hawks.
