Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-Just over a week before learning which professional team will claim him during the NHL Draft, Waterloo Black Hawks forward Brock Boeser was invited to USA Hockey's Lake Placid, New York, camp which will determine the roster for the United States National Junior Team.
The Hawks' 2014/15 leading scorer is one of 39 players in the running to represent the nation during the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. A former Waterloo skater has appeared for the United States during four of the last seven tournaments. Most recently, defenseman Ian McCoshen played in both the 2014 and 2015 events.
Boeser has worn red, white, and blue with regularity in his recent hockey career. In August, 2013, he was a member of the U.S. Under-17 Select Team which won the Five Nations Tournament in Slovakia. A year later with the U-18 Selects, he was in Europe again, participating in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. Boeser then helped the United States Junior Selects to the top of the podium during December in Canada at the World Junior A Challenge.
With the Black Hawks, Boeser tied for the United States Hockey League lead with 35 goals during 2014/15. He accumulated 68 points in 57 games. The University of North Dakota recruit was named to both the All-USHL and USHL All-Rookie Teams by league coaches and general managers. NHL Central Scouting has ranked him among the top 30 North American skaters available for next weekend's 2015 NHL Draft in Florida.
The U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp is slated from August 1-8 and will include scrimmages against opposing teams from Finland and Sweden. Players will stay at the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center while all games and practices will be held at Lake Placid Olympic Center's 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. The United States has medaled in three of the last six IIHF World Junior Championships, including gold in 2013 and 2010 and bronze in 2011.
