Bismarck Bobcats News Release
After concluding their second game in first round best-of-five series, the Bobcats returned home early this morning with another victory under their belts. Now up 2-0 in the North American Hockey League first round of playoffs, the Bobcats defeated the Fargo-Moorhead Jets last night, Tuesday, March 30 at the John E. Carlson Coliseum in Fargo, ND.
Bobcat forward #21 Jason Palmer played a significant role in the Bobcat victory, taking advantage of his first scoring opportunity at 6:36 in the first period from Shawn Bartlette and Filip Macejka. This proved to be the lone goal of the first period, but the second period was another story as #36 JJ Koehler lit the lamp at only 1:30 into the period from Brian Bina and Shawn Bartlette and then Palmer scored his second goal of the night when Macejka's crafty puck handling resulted in a feed to Palmer directly in front of the F-M Jets' goaltender at 5:10. Unfortunately the F-M Jets were able to answer back with goals from Preece and Myhro at 11:14 and 16:13, but the Bobcats were able to put one more point on the board when Shawn Bartlette capitalized on a pass from Jason Palmer and Clayton Rehm to put the Cats up 4-2 going into the third.
The battle only intensified in the third as both teams went head-to-head until the Jets' Malark shortened the gap at 8:52 to a 4-3 Bobcat advantage. The remaining eleven minutes were do or die as the F-M Jets hoped to even the series 1-1, but even with a powerplay opportunity late in the third, they were not able even score as Clayton Rehm was able to get his stick into the mix of a 2 on 1 Jets advantage to clear and send the Bobcats into game number three of the playoffs with two wins under their belts.
Game #3 will be held this Friday, April 2 in Fargo, ND once again at the John E. Carlson Coliseum at 7:00pm. If the Bobcats wrap up the series by securing their third win, they will then advance to the second round of playoffs to begin April 11th. If, however, the Jets acquire their first win of the series, the Bobcats will host the F-M Jets at the VFW Sportscenter in Bismarck, ND on Saturday, April 3 at 7:00pm.
