Bobcats open season on home ice

Bismarck, ND...The Bismarck Bobcats square of on Friday and Saturday Night against NAHL opponent Alaska Avalanche. It's Bobcat Hockey's opening night and the only time the Avalanche will visit Bismarck this season.

Both teams are coming off their first regular season action at the NAHL showcase last weekend. The Avalanche finished the week with a 2-2 record defeating the NAHL At-Large team 3-2 and the Marquette Rangers 8-5 and losing to Southern Minnesota Express 2-0 and the Springfield Jr. Blues 3-1. The AVs are in third place in the Southern Division with a .500 record. They have both given up and scored 12 goals so far this year. The AVs are the second most penalized team in the league racking up nearly 40 minutes per game in their first four game and fans should look for very physical weekend. The AVs are coached by Dean Larson and Corey Millen.

The Bismarck Bobcats finished the NAHL showcase with a 3-1 record. After a wake up call at the hands of the Sante Fe Roadrunners, the Bobcats came back to win three straight with strong goaltending and a number of players light it up. The Bobcats scored thirteen goals in the three wins and there were 12 different players lighting the lamp. The Bobcats rang up 96 penalty minutes and bring both toughness and speed to the arena.

"This will be a good test this weekend and we are going to need all of our guys to show up and play hard all weekend, and all season for that matter. We are the kind of team that is going to win games with hard work" according to Bobcats Head Coach Dane Litke.

The Home Opener begins at 7:05 on Friday with a rematch at the same time on Saturday. Both games will be played at the VFW arena. Saturday's game can be heard on the internet by going to the Bobcat Website at BismarckBobcats.com.
