Honor Roll
FRISCO, TX -- With a productive week under their belts, Bobcats Alex Strand and Garrett Nelson earned honorable mention distinction Monday for the NAHL's Central Division Star of the Week award.
Strand racked up three goals and an assist over the three-game span, including the game-winning goal on Friday against the Austin Bruins. Saturday's 3-2 loss to Austin was the only game in which the Roseau, Minn., native did not contribute a point last week
Nelson, meanwhile, got his first honorable mention of the year thanks to a very physical game on November 10 at Minot and then an assist in each game on the weekend against the Bruins. The second-year blueliner is tied with Patrik Demel for the most points among Bobcat defensemen at five assists.
Monday marked the first time in five weeks that the Bobcats did not have either the first or second star in the Central Division.
Hey There, Bob
Bobcat alums had a particularly dominant weekend at the Division III level, but nobody had a bigger Friday and Saturday than 2012-13 center Bob Kinne at St. Mary's College.
In a weekend sweep over MIAC foe Bethel, Kinne put together a three goal, three assist performance to keep the Cardinals in a first-place tie in the conference.
A pair of Kinne's 2012-13 teammates earned hat tricks on the weekend: Adam Knochenmus poured in three goals, including the game winner, Saturday as Wisconsin-Eau Claire routed Concordia 6-3; Corbin Chapman's hat trick also included the game-winner Friday in Augsburg's 4-1 victory over Wisconsin-Stout.
Relevant Stats
Here's a look behind the numbers for the Cats this week:
Travis Wood's goal Friday snapped a 10-game goalless streak dating back to opening night.
All three of Wood's goals have come at Austin's expense.
Strand has been the hottest Bobcat since late September, amassing all of his 13 points (7g, 6a) in the last 12 games.
The Bobcats have only won twice when allowing three or more goals, and both wins were against the Bruins (9/18 and 11/13).
Gianni Brandi scored his first goal as a Bobcat in his second game in black and gold.
Brandi's power play goal Friday ended an 0-for-12 drought on the PP for the Cats.
In Friday's 6-4 win over Austin, the Bobcats went 2-for-4 on the power play; over the previous 13 games, they had gone 2-for-44.
Upcoming Schedule
After a brief home stand, the Bobcats head back out on their road for their first visit to Riverside Arena for two games against the Austin Bruins.
