Weekend Preview: Corpus Christi

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - For the first time this season the Brahmas are beach bound as they depart for a three game set against the Corpus Christi IceRays.

Back during the pre-season the IceRays got the best of the Brahmas, but this time, it's for real.

THE OPPOSITION: Entering the weekend at 5-10-3 the IceRays currently stand fifth in the south division, just one point ahead of the Amarillo Bulls.  The team is in the midst of a slide currently, going 0-3-2 in their last five including being swept by Odessa and Wichita Falls.

Scoring has been the issue for Corpus Christi so far this season.  They currently rank dead last in the NAHL, only averaging 1.72 goals per game.  For what it's worth, they are the only team averaging fewer than 2.00.

THE BRAHMAS: After yet another weekend sweep of the Amarillo Bulls, the boys now sit at 11-1-3, second in the south.  Unbeaten in their last five, they are now the only team in the league with a win percentage over .800%.

The team has to be careful and prepare efficiently for their weekend trip as for the first time in nearly a month they're seeing someone not named "Amarillo" on their schedule.

THE DIFFERENCE: As mentioned, the IceRays have struggled to find the back of the net.  However, the biggest gap between these two teams is their ability to stop the opposition from lighting the lamp.

Lone Star currently ranks atop the league only allowing 1.73 goals per game.  On the other hand, Corpus ranks 16th in the same stat, allowing 3.06.

In the 15 games played so far this season, the tandem of Conor O'Brien and Corbin Kaczperski has only allowed more than three goals once, and that was a road game in Topeka in which Kaczperski was forced into action last second due to an injury in warm-ups to O'Brien.

The three game set starts at 10:45 A.M. on Thursday, a rare morning start thanks to "Kids Day" at the American Bank Center.  Friday and Saturday the games returns to normal timing with puck drop at 7:11 P.M.
