Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Bobblehead dolls have become the most sought after of giveaways at sporting events across America, and the bobbing likenesses have recognized personalities from all walks of life. But nobody's figure is quite as unique as Bob Leroy Head's, and the native of Maquoketa, Iowa, will be bringing his own bobblehead dolls to John O'Donnell Stadium on August 24.
Not only will Head be throwing out the first pitch at the Friday night contest against Cedar Rapids, but he will also be making his bobblehead dolls available on the concourse in order to support the Hospice of Jackson County. Fans will have the opportunity to make a donation to the hospice, and those who make contributions of $10 or more will also receive a free Bob L. Head bobblehead doll as a gift.
"We're very excited to have Bob L. Head - both the person and the doll - in the ballpark," said Swing General Manager Ben Burke. "It's light-hearted promotions like these that make Minor League Baseball so much fun, and we're happy to be able to help out his great cause."
Head, who was originally recognized by the Portland Beavers, won a contest held by the Triple-A franchise in order to honor a new bobblehead star. In the final round, he garnered 51 percent of the fan voting to beat out Bob Lee Head of Evansville, Indiana, and Bob Louis Head of Vallejo, California.
Now, the true Bob L. Head is coming to John O'Donnell Stadium to share his doll with Swing fans in an effort to raise funds for the Hospice of Jackson County!
