Bob Funk Jr. Recognized for Efforts to Prevent Sexual Assaults

Oklahoma City - Bob Funk Jr. Prodigal LLC CEO, earned national recognition from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt announced earlier today. For the third consecutive season, the Oklahoma City Barons join Attorney General Scott Pruitt to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Oklahoma.

The NSVRC awards annually their Visionary Voice Award. This award highlights individuals throughout the country whose prevention work is making and impact in their communities. Nominees are selected by state, tribal or territorial anti- sexual violence coalitions. Bob Funk Jr. is one of 26 leaders from across the country to earn the 2013 Visionary Voice Award.

For the third consecutive season, the Oklahoma City Barons are participating in Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Barons players are wearing teal stickers on their helmets for the remainder of the season. In addition, a teal ribbon and phrase "Sexual Assault Awareness Month" are installed in the ice at the Cox Convention Center. For this season, the Barons are donating $1 of every ticket sold in the month of April, including any potential playoff games, to programs aimed at educating citizens of Oklahoma about the prevention of these activities.

The Barons' efforts culminate on Saturday, April 20, when the team will distribute t-shirts during the game with proactive messages aimed at raising the awareness of sexual assault in Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault will have a booth on the upper concourse with educational materials and Bob Funk Jr. will receive his 2013 Visionary Voice Award.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month is designed to raise awareness about sexual assault and what Oklahomans can do to help prevent the underreported crime. Advocates continue to stress the critical role Oklahoma men can play in preventing sexual assault.

Calls are answered by a crisis intervention specialist who can provide information about law enforcement and safety and direct the caller to local resources to help. The Barons continue their hunt for a playoff berth on the road this week. April 10, they take on division rival Houston at 7 p.m. April 12, they visit the Rochester Americans at 6 p.m. (ct). They close out the weekend against the Hamilton Bulldogs on April 14 at 3 p.m. (ct). All three games can be heard on the Barons flagship station, 96.1 KXY.
