ST. PAUL, MN - The votes have been counted. The St. Paul Saints on Wednesday proudly introduced their 2008 four-legged mascot: Boarack Ohama (Boar-AHK O-HAH-muh).

For two long months, three candidates, Hillary Rod-ham Clinton, John Muckain and Ohama criss-crossed the Twin Cities in furious attempts to garner this nomination. Charges of pork barrel politics and incessant mud-slinging marred a series of debates. Negative ads ham-pered each of the candidates throughout the chase. The campaign kicked off when hundreds of fans submitted their nominations to the Star Tribune. Following the primaries, Rod-ham Clinton, Muckain and Ohama were left standing.

"This race was tougher than a greased pig to get a handle on, but in the end Ohama just brought a little more to the trough," said Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager Derek Sharrer.

The winning name came from over 1,000 entries received by the Star Tribune. Don Mercado from Eagan, MN submitted the winning name. He was honored at the Saints World's Largest Game of Catch in downtown St. Paul on the afternoon of May 7 as the team introduced with the new four-legged swine.

The Saints pig is famous for delivering baseballs to the umpire, a tradition the club has had since its inception in 1993. Ohama joins a long list of famous pigs at Midway Stadium such as Bud Squealig, Kevin Bacon, Hammy Davis, Jr., Notorious P.I.G. (Piggy Smalls) and Ham Solo.

Ohama, who succeeds 2007's Garrison Squeallor, will make his first appearance at Midway Stadium on Opening Night, Thursday, May 8th when the Saints take on the Grand Prairie AirHogs on Military Appreciation Night presented by Cub Foods and AUSA. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a free Saints logo baseball courtesy of AUSA. For tickets contact the Saints box office at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.
