Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SALISBURY, MD - Frank Crinella hit a three-run home run off Ismael Cabrera to break a 3-3 tie in the sixth and Delmarva held off a BlueClaws rally to top Lakewood 6-5 on Sunday at Perdue Stadium, sweeping the four-game series.
Lakewood got a run in the eighth on a Jose Antequera single and a run in the ninth on a Darick Hall double. Jake Bray, however, struck out a pinch-hitting Mickey Moniak and then David Martinelli with the tying run on second base to end the game.
The BlueClaws (0-4/40-34) get swept in their second series this season and fall to 6-8 against Delmarva (4-0/33-39) on the season. The four-game skid marks the third four-game losing streak for the BlueClaws, who had won six in a row before the All-Star break, this season.
Crinella's game-winning home run, the sixth homer of the series for Delmarva, was just the second of his professional career. The home run came off Cabrera (4-5), who took the loss.
Trailing 1-0, the BlueClaws took the lead in the second inning on an RBI groundout from Jose Antequera and an RBI double from Enmanuel Garcia .
The lead was short-lived, as Delmarva re-took the lead with two in the third on Preston Palmerio's ninth home run of the season. The long-ball, which cleared the left-centerfield fence, was the sixth home run of the series for Delmarva, and second by Palmeiro.
Lakewood tied the game in the fifth inning on Enmanuel Garcia's third home run of the season.
Starter JoJo Romero came out after five innings, allowing three runs and did not factor in the decision.
Shorebirds starter Alex Wells (5-4) was the winning pitcher, allowing three runs over seven innings, matching his longest outing of the season.
Henri Lartigue and Enmanuel Garcia had three hits for Lakewood while Darick Hall and Jose Antequera each had two.
The BlueClaws head home to open a four-game series with Greensboro on Monday night. LHP Ranger Suarez (4-2) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP LJ Brewster (4-5).
