Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - For the second time in three nights, extra innings were needed to decide a winner at Fluor Field, but on Saturday, it was the home team who came out on top. Roldani Baldwin's walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Greenville Drive a 5-4 win over the Charleston RiverDogs.
The rally saw the Drive (1-2, 42-30) three consecutive hits off RiverDogs (2-1, 36-37) reliever Garrett Mundell (0-3). Tyler Hill dropped a single into center, and Ryan Scott followed with a single off Mundell's foot to put runners on first and second. Baldwin then grounded a single through the right side, and Hill slid in ahead of the throw to end the game.
Algenis Martinez (2-1) got the win with three terrific innings of relief. He held Charleston scoreless while striking out six, and he allowed two hits and two walks.
The Drive took a 2-0 lead in the third inning against Brian Keller. Carlos Tovar and Steven Reveles singled to begin the frame, and Tovar later scored on a fielder's choice by Santiago Espinal. A wild pitch later in the inning scored Espinal for the second run.
Charleston then scored all of their runs over the next three innings. Donny Sands smacked a solo homer over the Green Monster off Robby Sexton in the fourth, and a two-run triple by Diego Castillo in the fifth put the RiverDogs ahead 3-2.
Estevan Florial then blasted a solo homer well over the fence in center leading off the sixth to make the score 4-2 in favor of Charleston.
The Drive forced extra innings after striking for a pair of runs in the eighth. Scott's line drive single to left scored Espinal, who drew a leadoff walk, and later in the inning, Tyler Spoon lifted a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to center to tie the game.
Hill went 3-5 with a pair of runs for Greenville, and Scott added two hits.
The series finale begins at 4:05 PM on Sunday at Fluor Field. The Drive will send left-hander Jhonathan Diaz (2-0, 4.09) to the mound as they aim for a split of the four-game series, and right-hander Austin DeCarr (0-0, 2.16) starts for the RiverDogs.
