LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws are closing in on baseball in 2009, and this Saturday, the team will open the ballpark to the general public for the first time this year.

The team's ninth annual FanFest will take place at FirstEnergy Park on March 7th, from 12 noon to 5 pm, and for the first time is presented by the Garden State Film Festival.

FanFest is the first day individual game tickets go on sale with all seats being sold at $1 off the regular price.

Further, all fans in attendance will be entered in a raffle to win Phillies luxury suite tickets for an On-Deck Series game against Tampa Bay at Citizens Bank Park in early April. There will also be raffles for tickets to the Garden State Film Festival and for Film Festival merchandise.

"This is always one of our favorite events," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "It means baseball is just a few weeks away. We're also happy this year to partner with the Garden State Film Festival to help us put on a great day for our fans."

Fans will also be able to tryout and win a spot in an on- field promotion, such as the dizzy-bat race or crab toss, during the BlueClaws season.

Also included in this year's FanFest is "You Make the Call." In the press box, fans can play broadcaster and call a Ryan Howard home run or the last out of the Phillies World Series victory and have the audio emailed to them.

The BlueClaws will have a face-painter on hand, host a Rock Band competition as well as an eating contest. They will also be giving ballpark tours and Pinchy's Playground tickets will be on sale, two for the price of one.

The Garden State Film Festival is an international film festival that features over 130 independent films and takes place in Asbury Park April 2nd-5th. The event is now in its seventh year, and Asbury Park becomes Hollywood east for the entire weekend. The event was founded to promote the art of filmmaking on all levels by showcasing a wide variety of film, video and animated works as well as provide educational programs in the creative arts to the public by industry leaders. In addition to great movies in multiple venues, there are also parties, receptions, guest celebrities, restaurant specials, live entertainment and much more.

The Lakewood BlueClaws welcomed 425,166 fans to FirstEnergy Park during the 2008 season which upped their eight-season total to 3,595,378. They have led the South Atlantic League in average or overall attendance in each of their eight seasons.

The team recently announced that all children ages 12 and under, will eat for free at every 2009 home games.
