BlueClaws Fall in Lake County to Split Four Game Series

EASTLAKE, OH-A 3-home run and 4-run 3rd inning propelled the Lake County Captains to an 8-4 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Tuesday afternoon. The teams split their 4-game wrap-around series at Classic Park.

Jason Denham (2nd) and Roman Pena (4th) each hit solo home runs and after a walk, Matt Whitney (8th) added a 2-run blast off of Kyle Drabek (3-1) to put Lake County (19-18) up 4-1.

Drabek allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks over 6 innings pitched, as he suffered his first loss of the season. Carlton Smith (2-2) allowed just 2 runs (1 earned) over 5 innings to pick up the win.

The BlueClaws (18-18) got back in the game in the 5th thanks to a solo home run by Carl Henry Jr. (4th). They got another run when Joel Naughton scored from 3rd when the catcher Alex Castillo dropped a throw home from the pitcher Carlton Smith on a force play.

Lake County added a run in the 6th when Kevin Howard's error allowed Jason Denham to score to make it 5-2, but it was 5-4 going to the 7th, thanks to Adrian Cardenas' 6th home run of the year, a 2-run blast to left off of Paolo Espino.

In the 7th, Lake County added 2 off Alexander Concepcion, with neither run scoring on a hit. Felipe Garcia scored on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt by Concepcion, and another when David Uribes came home when Adam Davis at first base was caught in a run-down. Lake County added a run in the 8th on an Alex Castillo single.

Cardenas, who also homered Monday, was 2-5 for Lakewood, Jason Donald was 2-4 with a run scored.

The BlueClaws are off on Wednesday, and will next take the field on Thursday night at 6:35 in Salisbury, MD to meet Delmarva (Orioles). Carlos Monasterios (2- 3, 5.60) opposes Brad Bergesen (3-2, 2.55). You can hear the action on the Shore Sports Network (1160 WOBM-AM and 1310 WADB).
