Kannapolis swept a Sunday double-header from the BlueClaws, winning the opener 5-1 and the nightcap 4-3 to take three of four in the season opening series.

The BlueClaws dropped the first game of the Sunday double-header 5-1. Lakewood took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Jake Scheiner SAC fly, but Kannapolis would answer in the bottom of the third and lead the rest of the way.

Luis Gonzalez homered off Spencer Howard to tie the game and the Intimidators added a run on an error by BlueClaws RF Jhailyn Ortiz after a base hit from Craig Dedelow.

Howard (0-1) gave up two runs, one earned, in three innings while striking out seven.

That was more than enough for starter John Parke, who gave up one run over a complete game seven innings, striking out six. He retired the last 15 hitters he faced.

Kannapolis added runs on a fifth inning Johan Cruz single and sixth inning double from Laz Riveraand LF Josh Stephen error for the final margin.

In game two, Daniel Brito opened the scoring for the BlueClaws with a solo home run in the second inning. It was Brito's first hit of the season.

Kannapolis got an unearned run off Damon Jones in the second and took the lead with two in the fourth. An RBI double by Tate Blackmon put them ahead and Blackmon came home on a SAC fly from Nolan Brown.

In the fifth, the BlueClaws tied the game with two runs off Luis Ledo. Brito tripled and scored on a wild pitch before Josh Stephen tied the game with a solo home run, his first of the season. Tyler Johnson threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning for his first save.

Damon Jones (0-1) gave up four runs, three earned, in 4.2 innings and took the loss. Ledo (1-0) earned the win despite allowing two runs in two innings.

The BlueClaws will open a three-game series at West Virginia on Monday night. RHP Connor Brogdon (-) will make his first start of the season.
