Asheville Tourists News Release

SALISBURY - Asheville was in search of a bounce back performance on Sunday afternoon; however, the Delmarva Shorebirds followed up their 18-3 win last night over the Tourists with a 14-9 victory today. The loss drops the Tourists to 0-4 to begin the season.

Delmarva used a six-run first inning fueled by three Tourists errors to immediately put Asheville in a deep hole. Riley Pint, who made his first start of the season, had to depart only six batters into the game.

Following the big first inning by the home team, Asheville settled in and began to mount a comeback. The Tourists plated three unanswered runs; two of which came on Casey Golden's two-run Home Run in the fourth inning.

After Will Robertson hit a solo Home Run for Delmarva in the sixth, the Tourists delivered with a two-out rally in the top of the eighth. Chad Spanberger plated a pair with a single into centerfield and a wild pitch brought the Tourists to within two at 8-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Shorebirds struck big, again. Delmarva scored six more runs on seven hits and a walk. The lead ballooned to 14-6. Asheville used a two-run double by Ryan Vilade in the ninth as well as a Zach Jarrett error to plate their final three runs.

Asheville has allowed 32 runs over the last two games; however, the Tourists will look to bounce back against the Kannapolis Intimidators. A three-game series between Asheville and Kannapolis begins on Monday evening at 6:35pm.
