JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Blane Abeyta threw six scoreless innings as Hudson Valley topped the BlueClaws 8-0 on the 4th of July at sold out ShoreTown Ballpark.
The crowd of 6,588 fans marked the fifth sell-out of the season and brought the BlueClaws within 26,793 of 8-million in team history.
The Renegades (5-5/39-37) took the first of six with Jersey Shore (2-7/27-48) this week.
Hudson Valley took the lead in the second inning on n RBI groundout by Carlos Narvaez before they blew the game open in the third. They got three straight extra-base hits to start the inning - a double by Trey Sweeney, double by Cooper Bowman, and triple by Everson Pereira for a 3-0 lead. Tyler Hardman added a SAC fly o put Hudson Valley up 4-0 nd he scored on an RBI single by Carlos Narvaez.
Meanwhile the BlueClaws could not solve Abeyta (1-6), who threw six scoreless innings to ern his first win of the season.
Jersey Shore starter Matt Russell (2-6) gave up five runs in 2.1 innings and took the loss. After Cristian Hernandez got five outs and Albertus Barber three, the Renegades added two more in the sixth off Andrew Baker. Narvaez homered, his seventh of the year, and Sweeney added an RBI single.
Hudson Valley added a run in the ninth off Jason Ruffcorn, the season-high seventh BlueClaws pitcher, for the final margin.
All told, the Renegades had five extra base hits among their 11 hits in the win.
Sweeney, Bowman, Narvaez, and Cristian Perez all had two hits for Hudson Valley while Casey Martin had two hits for the BlueClaws. Ethan Wilson had one hit and extended his hitting streak to six games.
The teams continue their series on Wednesday morning at 11:05 am. LHP Rafael Marcano starts for Jersey Shore.
