July 4, 2022 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Asheville Tourists News Release
ROME- Offense was at a premium on Monday night when the Asheville Tourists fell to the Rome Braves 2-1 in the series opener. Asheville was held to only two hits in the game, both singles. Rome's offense did not fare much better with just five hits.
Diosmerky Taveras pitched four scoreless innings for Asheville and did not give up a hit. Rome's Dylan Dodd worked five hitless innings, although the Tourists took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth off Dodd.
Zach Daniels reached base, stole second, and then scored on a Braves throwing error. Rome responded with a solo Home Run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Later in the inning with runners at first and second with one out, a passed ball put the go-ahead run at third base. The Braves then hit a Sacrifice Fly to take the lead.
Asheville was held without a hit until two outs in the eighth inning. Deury Carrasco singled into right field; however, Quincy Hamilton flew out to end the threat. Hamilton's reach base streak was snapped at 30 games.
Luis Santana gave the Tourists their second hit of the game with a two-out single in the ninth. Aaron Brown worked the final four innings on the mound for Asheville. Brown pitched out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the eighth with help from Michael Sandle's third outfield assist in the last three games.
The Tourists and Braves will play Game Two of the series on Wednesday night at 7:00pm ET.
