BlueClaws Bats Burst out in 10-0 Thursday Win

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws pounded a season-high 10 runs on a season-high 14 hits while Tyler McKay threw five scoreless innings in a 10-0 win over West Virginia on Thursday night.

Lakewood (9-18) snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Power (17-8).

Malvin Matos had three extra base hits for the BlueClaws while Jonathan Guzman had three hits and Matt Kroon had two doubles in the win. Abrahan Gutierrez had three hits as well in victory.

The BlueClaws got a pair of first inning runs on groundouts by Abrahan Gutierrez and Malvin Matos to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Hunter Stovall, who had his first multi-hit game as a BlueClaw, grounded out in the second to drive in the third run of the game.

Lakewood added five more runs in the fifth inning including runs on an RBI double from Malvin Matos and an RBI single from Guzman. In the sixth, Matos hit an RBI triple as part of a two-run inning.

Meanwhile, West Virginia couldn't solve McKay, who struck out four over five scoreless frames to earn his first win of the season. Ben Brown followed and gave up three hits over 3.2 innings and Oscar Marcelino got the last out.

The BlueClaws earned their first shutout of the season in the win.

Lakewood opens a four-game series with Rome on Friday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Dominic Pipkin(1-1) will start for the BlueClaws.
