Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons suffered their seventhloss in a row, falling by a score of 6-5 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in front of 5,685 fans at Regions Field.
Pensacola broke in front first scoring a run in the first inning on an RBI double by Travis Mattair against starter Tony Bucciferro.
The Barons tied the game an inning later on an RBI double by Joey DeMichele scoring Jason Coats from second base against Pensacola starter Mikey O'Brien.
After three-straight scoreless frames, the Blue Wahoos jumped back on top starting with a leadoff double by Devin Lohman. He advanced to third on a groundout by Kyle Waldrop and scored when a soft grounder by Travis Mattair was mishandled and thrown wildly to first base by Bucciferro.
The Barons took their first lead of the game in sixth on a bases-loaded two-run double by Demichele scoring Kevan Smith and Rangel Ravelo. However, Jason Coats was thrown out at home on the play. The hit knocked O'Brien from the game for reliever Ben Klimesh.
With Kevan Smith batting and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, a wild pitch by Radhames Quezada threw a wild pitch scoring Trayce Thompson from third base and extending the lead to 4-2.
Tim Anderson's RBI single in the eighth extended the lead to 5-3 and gave him his fourth multi-hit game in six starts with the Barons. He finished 2-for-5 on the night and is hitting .444 (12-for-27) with the Barons.
However, the Barons were unable to hold the lead in the ninth as reliever Nestor Molina blew his sixth save allowing two runs on an RBI single by Bryson Smith and a sacrifice fly by Brodie Greene, tying the game at 5-5 and send the game to extra innings.
Pensacola pulled ahead for good in the 10th on an RBI single by Bryson Smith against Nelvin Fuentes (0-2, 2.40) as the Barons fell to 2-12 in extra-inning games this season.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 58-78 on the season and 29-37 in the second half while Pensacola improved to 58-78 on the year and 27-39 in the second half.
The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Mike Recchia (5-4, 3.32) takes the hill against RHPTim Adleman (3-7, 3.00).First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
