Montgomery Biscuits News Release
PENSACOLA, Flo. - The Biscuits (48-38) fell behind in the first inning and never recovered in a 5-2 loss to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (44-43) on Thursday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Zach McCambley (1-4) started on the hill for the Blue Wahoos, and the right-hander sat the Biscuits down in order in top of the first, striking out lead-off hitter Xavier Edwards. Jack Labosky made his fifth start on the mound for Montgomery, and the righty allowed four hits in the bottom of the first, including a two-run home run to Jerar Encarnacion, which sailed over the batter's eye in straightaway center and made it 2-0 Pensacola.
McCambley struck out two more batters in the second and remained perfect through two. Labosky settled down in the second, striking out his second batter, in a scoreless frame. McCambley walked Moises Gomez in the third, but also struck out his fifth batter, keeping the Biscuits off the board, and hitless.
Labosky notched a season-high sixth strikeout in the bottom of the fourth, but also surrendered a two-run homer to right off the bat of JJ Bleday, who doubled Pensacola's lead to 4-0. McCambley tallied his eighth strikeout in a one-two-three fifth, keeping the no-hitter intact.
McCambley was lifted for Zack Leban in the sixth when Edwards knocked a one-out single into right-center to end the combined no-hit effort. Bleday's sac fly off Jordan Brink in the sixth made it a 5-0 game before Ford Proctor crushed a two-run homer over the batter's eye in straightaway center to finally get the Biscuits on the board at 5-2 in the seventh.
Joel Peguero worked a couple of clean innings, striking out three between the seventh and eighth, but Colton Hock came on for Pensacola in the ninth and locked up his 13th save with a one-two-three inning to seal the win. The Biscuits are now just 2-7 in Pensacola this season.
The Biscuits will try to rebound on Friday when Jayden Murray (1-1) goes up against Jake Eder (3-5) at 6:35 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium for a six-game series against the Mississippi Braves starting on a Golden Biscuits Tuesday, on August 17 at 6:35 PM CT.
