Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
DUNEDIN, FL (July 28th, 2010) - After slugging their way to victory Tuesday against the Blue Jays, the Miracle offense mustered only five hits tonight, with Dunedin squeaking out a 2-1 win. Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, the Miracle got their only run as Allan De San Miguel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs. Ironically, the Blue Jays retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth in the same situation, as Jon Talley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded against Miracle reliever Joe Testa.
Fort Myers (15-16) starting pitcher Kane Holbrooks (1-1) took the loss, issuing a one-out walk to Mike McDade in the sixth inning, who later came around to score on the bases loaded hit-by-pitch with Testa on the mound. Holbrooks gave up the D-Jay's first run in the third, as Ryan Goins dropped down a successful bunt single with two-outs and Justin McClanahan at third. The right-hander allowed only five hits in five and one-third innings, striking out six and walking just one.
Joel Carreno (7-5) earned with win for Dunedin, pitching two innings in relief of starter Chad Beck. Carreno gave up the only Miracle run of the night with the hit-by-pitch against De San Miguel in the sixth.
Frank Gailey tossed two scoreless innings in relief, and Matt Daly pitched a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save of the year.
The Miracle offense scattered five singles across the nine innings, and did not have more than one hit in any single inning. Evan Bigley had the best night offensively, finishing 2-for-4.
With the series tied 1-1, Fort Myers looks to secure a split in the four-game series with a win tomorrow night. First pitch on Thursday is set for 7:00 p.m. from Dunedin Stadium.
