Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - All nine Mussels' starters reached base, but the Dunedin Blue Jays took Thursday's tilt 5-2 at TD Ballpark.
Fort Myers (9-3) left 12 runners on base, including seven over the final four innings. After five straight wins, Thursday marked the Mussels' first road loss of the season.
The scoring started in the bottom of the second when the Blue Jays (4-8) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Mussels throwing error.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Mussels outfielder Kyler Fedko connected for a double to right before Jesus Feliz dropped a double into right to move Fedko to third. The next batter was Mikey Perez, who pulled a base hit into left field to tie the game 1-1. Three batters later, Ernie Yake plated Feliz with a sacrifice fly to center to give Fort Myers a 2-1 lead.
With the same score in the bottom of the fourth, Jommer Hernandez doubled off the wall in right field for Dunedin. The next batter was Angel Del Rosario, who ripped an RBI double down the left field line to make it 2-2.
In a tie game in the bottom of the fifth, Jordan Groshans drilled a double off the wall to start the inning against Jackson Hicks (1-1). With two outs and Groshans at second, Gabriel Martinez delivered the decisive blow by blasting a two-run homer to left to give Dunedin a 4-2 lead. The D-Jays added a run in the seventh on a balk.
The Mussels will turn to FSL Pitcher of the Week John Stankiewicz at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Dunedin will start LHP Rickey Tiedemann. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on the Mighty Mussels Baseball Network.
