Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
Waldorf, MD. - Fresh off back-to-back check marks in the W column, Southern Maryland kept the winning streak going in the first of a six game road stand. Tonight's 3-2 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers means that the Blue Crabs have nearly a third of their wins on the season during this win streak.
The Barnstormers got on the scoreboard first with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning off of Blue Crabs starter Michael Kelly (W, 1-2), marking the lone run, and one of just two hits that the right-hander would allow throughout the duration of his fantastic outing.
The Blue Crabs struck back on the Lancaster starter, Buddy Bamann (L, 2-3) in the middle innings of the game. It started with a Rubi Silva RBI double, tying the score at one run a piece as his bat would stay scorching hot following a five for eight performance in the final two games of the recent Southern Maryland homestand.
The seventh inning followed with a pair of Blue Crab runs as the bats came through with the bases loaded. It started with a keen eye at the plate from Tony Thomas as he walked on a full count to bring home the go ahead run in the contest. One batsman later, in his fourth start of the season, Kent Blackstone came through with a fielder's choice RBI to tack on an insurance run as Jose Julio-Ruiz scored to give the good guys a 3-1 lead.
The Barnstormers entered full comeback mode following the seventh inning stretch with a new arm on the mound for Southern Maryland. The six-foot nine-inch lefty, Adam Choplick entered the game and allowed a Lancaster run from yet another solo home-run, this time off the bat of K.C. Hobson.
The Freedom Division rivals traded scoreless innings for the remainder of the game, and Mat Latos (S,4) closed the door to seal the deal on a season best three game win streak, coming at a score of 3-2.
The Blue Crabs will return home tomorrow, Friday, June 7th for the final game of the homestand, and it'll be Girl Scout Night/Sleepover and Glow in the Park Night at Regency Furniture Stadium, with the first pitch at 6:35 PM.
