Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
The Blue Crabs have announced plans for their annual season-opening Fan Fest celebration at Regency Furniture Stadium, scheduled for Saturday, April 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This year's event will also feature the 3rd Annual St. Charles Running Festival along with the Charles County Youth League (CCYL) Opening Day Festivities. Fan Fest is being made possible by Chick-fil-A, and is completely FREE to the public.
The day kicks-off with the CCYL Opening Day Ceremonies being held on the field at Regency Furniture Stadium beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Opening Day Ceremonies will feature over 600 little leaguers parading on field, brief remarks from Blue Crabs manager Patrick Osborn and Blue Crabs players serving as honorary coaches for the Bambino Buddies Game that will commence on the field immediately following the ceremonies.
The box office at the ballpark will be open throughout the event, as April 13 will be the first day single-game seats for all 70 Blue Crabs home games this season will be on sale. Season ticket and mini-plan holders can also get their hands on their ticket packages for the first time that day. Chick-fil-A Backfin Buddies members and Hearing Professionals Silver Sluggers members will also be able to pick-up their ticket plans and merchandise at Fan Fest.
Always an event for kids, this year's Fan Fest will be no exception. Kids can get their faces painted, hair styled, be entertained by balloonists and mascots, ride the bumper boats in Crabby Cove and play on the inflatables in the Kids Zone for FREE. Chick-fil-A will also be on hand with free games, delicious Chick-fil-A food and prizes. Fans of all ages will get their first glance at the 2013 Blue Crabs team, as players and coaches will be on hand to sign autographs during various autograph sessions on the concourse throughout the day.
"This has to be the most exciting time of the year, nothing beats the anticipation of a new season," said Blue Crabs Marketing Manager Courtney Knichel. "Fan Fest always signals the official beginning of spring for us, and we'll have a great kick-off to the season at the stadium less than two weeks before the Blue Crabs take the field here for the first time."
Throughout Fan Fest, there will also be live music in addition to ticket sales and the attractions set-up around the stadium. Concessions will be available throughout the day and the team store will be open so fans can stock up on new Blue Crabs gear.
For the third year in a row the Blue Crabs Fan Fest will also feature the St. Charles Running Festival. The festival will consist of three different distances (5K, 10K and a kids' fun run) and proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Maryland. This year the St. Charles Running Festival is anticipated to reach close to 1,000 participants.
The festival will lead runners throughout the roads of Charles County with Regency Furniture Stadium serving as the focal point. The preliminary design of the scenic and mostly flat 10-mile course has runners starting at Regency Furniture Stadium, then proceeding north up Piney Church Road, west on Billingsley Road, and south on St. Charles Parkway. The second half of the race continues south on Radio Station Road, east on to La Plata Road, then back on to Piney Church Road once again before finishing at the stadium.
The 5k course starts and finishes at the stadium and is a basic up-and-back loop on Piney Church Rd. The Chick-fil-A Kids Fun Run will be contained within the parking lots of the stadium. For more information or to register for one of the runs visit www.stcharlesrunfest.com or call (410) 605-9381.
"This event truly encompasses everything we are striving for: affordable family entertainment, providing memorable experiences and incorporating community events to what we do here at Regency Furniture Stadium," Knichel said.
