Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Waldorf, MD August 3, 2015)---Southern Maryland wrapped up their seven game homestand, falling to the Sugar Land Skeeters by the final of 4-3.
Sugar Land took an early 1-0 lead, and added a run in the top of the third on a fielder's choice to score Jeff Dominguez to make it 2-0. Southern Maryland cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth on a Keith Castillo single to score Jake Opitz to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Casey Stevenson singled with one out. The very next hitter Zach Wilson drove a fly ball out to right. The catch was made by Dominguez, but Stevenson tagged up and scored from third to tie the game at 2-2.
Southern Maryland claimed the lead for the first time in the game in the bottom of the sixth. Jovan Rosa led things off with a monster homerun over the wall in left field to tie the game at 3-3. RHP Cody Eppley was called out of the bullpen in the top of the eighth. Delwyn Young led things off with a double. The next two hitters Chris Wallace, and Travis Scott struck out to bring Johan Limonta up to the plate. Johan lashed a single to center, allowing Delwyn Young to score just ahead of the tag from the catcher Keith Castillo to tie things up.
Each team was held scoreless in the ninth, and tenth innings, and in the top of the 11th, Patrick Palmeiro walked to start things off. Denny Almonte came to the plate and dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Palmeiro to second to bring Jeff Dominguez to the plate. Jeff ripped a single to center that got by Antone DeJesus allowing Palmeiro to score the eventual winning run.
Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision as RHP Brian Baker went six innings, allowing two runs, on seven hits, and striking out five. RHP Sean Gallagher went six innings, allowing three runs, on six hits, and striking out four. Southern Maryland left ten runners on base, and have now left 20 runners on in the past two games.
After an off day tomorrow, the Blue Crabs return to action on Wednesday, taking on the York Revolution for a four game series on the road. The first pitch is set for 6:35 on Wednesday evening.
