Blue Crabs Bats Explode, Ending Revs' Three-Game Win Streak
May 31, 2017 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
A night ago the York Revolution held the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to just five hits in a series-opening victory, extending York's winning streak to three consecutive games. On Wednesday afternoon, however, the Blue Crabs more than tripled that output at the plate, spraying 17 hits, including three home runs, as the Revs fell 11-1 in front of 5,113 fans on Baseball in Education Day at PeoplesBank Park.
After a two-out walk in the first, Michael Snyder met Revs starter Logan Williamson with a home run to left, as Southern Maryland drew first blood.
Snyder added an RBI single in the third, part of a four-hit game for the Blue Crabs first baseman. Two batters later it was Zach Cone launching a three run home run to left center field, as the Southern Maryland lead ballooned to 6-0.
The Blue Crabs added two more in the fourth on four hits, chasing Williamson from the game. Patrick Palmeiro then led off the fifth with a solo shot to left off of reliever Joe Van Meter to make it a 9-0 Southern Maryland lead.
Chris Dula make his York debut in the eighth, allowing the final two runs, but consistently sat in the mid-nineties on the radar gun.
Jared Mitchell pinch hit for Michael Burgess in the eighth inning, and launched the first pitch he saw from Crabs reliever Britt Robertshaw onto the hill in right-center for his second home run of the season and the fourth pinch-hit homer in Revs history, breaking up the shutout.
Drew Hayes picked up his second win of the season for Southern Maryland, tossing five scoreless innings, and setting up a rubber game on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at PeoplesBank Park. It's WellSpan CPR Night, as well as Make Believe Night, featuring four-time U.S. Air Guitar Champion Matt "Airistotle" Burns. The Revs will send Steve Janas (1-3, 5.20) to the hill to face off with Brian Grening (2-1, 3.08) of the Blue Crabs. Darrell Henry and Matt Present will be on the air at 6:10 p.m. on 1350 WOYK as well as online at woyk1350.com, YorkRevsTV.com, and on the WOYK App. For tickets to the series finale visit yorkrevolution.com, the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office, or call 717-801-HITS.
Notes: Travis Witherspoon led the York offense, going 3-for-4 on the day. He has hit safely in seven consecutive games and 11 of his last 12, batting .447 (21-for-47) and raising his average from .203 to .304. Mitchell's pinch-hit homer was the first by a Revs batter since Steve Haake in 2010.
