Bridgeport, CT- May 30, 2017 - The Bridgeport Bluefish (21-18) defeated the New Britain Bees (14-24) 4-1 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard in the opener of a three-game series between the Nutmeg State rivals on Tuesday evening. Bridgeport has now won 20 of their last 36 games overall and are back to within three games of the First Place Somerset Patriots in the First Half of the Liberty Division Standings.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Chris Rearick (3-1) earned the win, allowing just one run on two hits in six innings pitched, striking out eight. New Britain Starting Pitcher Kyle Simon (2-3) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs (three earned runs) on eight hits, walking one and striking out five while giving up a home run. David Carpenter retired the side in order in the top half of the ninth inning, striking out a pair to notch his Atlantic League leading 14th save of the season.

New Britain took a quick 1-0 lead against Rearick in the top half of the first inning when Michael Crouse hustled down the line from third base on a wild pitch with two men away after Crouse registered his Atlantic League Best third triple of the season with one down. Bridgeport answered right back in the home half of the second inning against Simon to get even as a sacrifice from Tony Abreu plated Sean Burroughs after he led off the frame with a single and a stolen base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. The Bluefish took their first lead at 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth and would never relinquish the advantage as Luis Hernandez drove home Daniel Fields with an RBI bloop single to centerfield. Burroughs made it 3-1 in favor of the 'Fish with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 6th, his second roundtripper of the season and team-best 15th multi-hit game. The boys from the Park City made it 4-1 after the fans stretched in the 7th on an RBI ground-rule double by Jose Gil. Bridgeport's pitchers did the rest, as Rearick, Zac Grotz, Manny Delcarmen, and Carpenter combined to strike out 15 hitters, a single-game high in 2017, surpassing the 13 strikeouts totaled in a 13-10 loss to the Sugar Land Skeeters at Constellation Field back on April 22nd. Burroughs and Gil led the way for the Bluefish with two hits each.
