Blue Bombers Sign Five Before Rookie Camp

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed five players to their roster today, prior to the start of the 2010 rookie camp this afternoon. Import defensive back Jason Tate, import linebacker Marcellus Bowman and non import running back Guillaume Senecal have been added. In addition, the Blue and Gold have inked 2010 draft picks Chris Greaves, Cory Watson.

Tate (5-11, 184, Hofstra, DOB: December 28, 1986 in Clifton, Virginia) spent time on the Washington Redskins practice roster after spending four years at Hofstra University. Playing both the safety and cornerback positions for the Pride, Tate registered 123 tackles and two interceptions in 42 games with 12 starts.

Bowman (6-2, 225, , DOB: October 12, 1986 in Girard, Ohio) went undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft and was immediately signed by Denver, although released shortly after. Bowman played four seasons at Boston College after redshirting in his first year at school. Had 12 tackles as a freshman and saw action in all 13 games. Marcellus had an injury-plagued sophomore season but bounced back as a reserve in his junior year with three interceptions. He returned one of those interceptions for 87 yards and a TD and registered 31 total tackles. He became a starter at strong side safety in his senior season and finished second on the Eagles with 73 tackles, adding two interceptions and attracting a great deal of scouting interest prior to the NFL Draft.

Senecal (6-00, 200, Laval, DOB: July 18, 1985, in St-Eustache, Quebec) played three seasons for the Laval Rouge et Or and starred at running back. He had 26 carries for

180 yards in 2009 which put him in third spot on the team.

Greaves (6-5, 290, Western, DOB: January 8, 1987 in Toronto, Ontario) was Winnipeg's pick in the sixth round of the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft (45th overall). He was named to the OUA second team all-star. Greaves finished the 2009 season with 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks and was part of a Mustangs defence that tied the OUA lead with 22 sacks.

Watson (6-2, 204, Concordia, DOB: March 27, 1984 in Dollard des Ormeaux, QC) was Winnipeg's first pick, 9th overall, in the 2010 CFL Draft. Watson was Concordia's leading receiver the past three seasons. In his final season of 2009, Watson caught 52 passes for 821 yards and six touchdowns. He led the Quebec University Football League in receptions, receiving yardage and yards per game, while also ranking second in the CIS in those categories. He was named a second-team CIS all-star.
