Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today re-signed a top Canadian college prospect by inking fullback Cory Olynick.

Olynick (5-10, 210, Regina '02, DOB: Mar. 27, 1977 in Regina, SK) is a standout Regina Rams player who has much to offer the Big Blue.

The Blue Bombers chose Olynick in the 5th Round (42nd Overall) of the 2003 Canadian College Draft, April 30, 2003. He didn't attend training camp that year after suffering an injury prior to the event.

"Cory is a non-import player that brings several skills to the table, especially on special teams," said Brendan Taman, general manager & vice-president of football operations for the Blue & Gold. "He has been a solid CIS player throughout his career. We expect him to push for a roster spot."

THE COLLEGE YEARS – REGINA RAMS

Olynick is a five-year veteran of Frank McCrystal's powerhouse Regina Rams football program. Olynick was a member of the Rams side that advanced to the Vanier Cup Championship game in 2000 (Regina vs. Ottawa @ Toronto, Dec. 2, 2000).

A school of human justice major, Olynick has frustrated opposing defences for years with his deft moves and knowledge of the game. Olynick is a graduate of Regina's F.W. Johnson High School.

DRAFT FACTS

He is the 2nd Rams player ever to be chosen by the Blue Bombers, following closely upon the choice of offensive tackle and teammate Todd Krenbrink in the 3rd Round (22nd Overall) of the 2003 draft.

Olynick is the 38th player selected by the Blue Bombers in the 5th Round. He is aiming to be the 9th player from that round to make the club. Olynick is the 36th receiver chosen by the football club in the history of the draft and is looking to be the 18th drafted receiver to become a Blue Bomber.
