WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club announced Sunday that kicker Troy Westwood, a 17-year veteran who spent his entire career with the franchise and became one of the most prolific scorers in CFL history, has been released from its roster.

The Dauphin, Manitoba native re-wrote the history books in a remarkable career with the Blue Bombers organization. Westwood, 41, holds more than 30 team records, including all-time scoring (2,741), most seasons leading the team in scoring (15) and holds the CFL record for best career field goal percentage in the playoffs (85.7%). The sixth round selection from the 1991 Canadian College Draft (48th overall) also kicked a league-best 663 consecutive regular season point-after conversions.

"Troy Westwood has represented so much of what is right about the Blue Bombers organization," said Lyle Bauer, president and CEO of the Winnipeg Football Club. "What an extraordinary career - 17 years. Troy has been a consummate professional and has represented this team so well. The longevity, the four Grey Cup appearances, the numerous honours, awards and records speak for themselves. But on top of that he has also always been a leader and friend his teammates could count on. Troy leaves a remarkable legacy with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and we thank Troy for nearly two decades of service."

Westwood leaves the Blue Bombers as the fourth-best scorer in CFL history, trailing Lui Passaglia, Mark McLoughlin and Paul Osbaldiston. His 290 games played ranks seventh all-time in league history.
