Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Milt Stegall will not be participating in this year's training camp, the team announced Tuesday.
Stegall was experiencing irritation and discomfort in his knee during off-season workouts. On doctor's recommendation, Stegall underwent an arthroscopic knee procedure on May 2 for evaluation and debridement. His progress will be monitored and return date based accordingly.
"The operation went well and I have been in rehab every single day since the procedure," said Stegall. "After the injury, I was in communication and consultation with the Blue Bombers medical staff. We decided that an arthroscopic procedure was the best option. I look forward to helping the team off the field throughout training camp and returning to the field when I am healthy."
"Milt has been a pro for this franchise since day 1 and he continues to be in his rehabilitation," said Blue Bombers general manager Brendan Taman. "Milt is the first to understand what a long season it is and it is important for him to be healthy when he returns to the line-up."
Winnipeg head coach Doug Berry will continue to lead the team's preparations for the year.
"Our focus remains on the season and to compete for a championship," said Berry. "With Milt out, other players will have to step-up in his absence. Our goals remain the same."
The Blue Bombers have also announced the release of defensive back Juran Bolden.
NOTE: Brendan Taman and Doug Berry will be made available to the media at the boardroom inside the Blue Bombers administration building on Tuesday, May 27 at 2 p.m. (Central time).
Milt Stegall will be made available during the availability session Tuesday afternoon via phone on a conference call at 2 p.m. Central time (3 p.m. Eastern time). For media wanting to call in to the conference call, please dial 416-641-2140 / 800-952-4972 and quote "Blue Bombers" as the title of the call.
The Blue Bombers will open their 2008 rookie camp with the first practice on Wednesday, May 28. Veterans hit the field for two-a-days on June 1. All workouts are open to the public and will be held at Canad Inns Stadium.
